They are also the Standards Development Organization for Gap Year Education in the US, as recognized by the US Department Founded in 2012, the Gap Year Association is the only national nonprofit working to coordinate the growing Gap Year Movement.of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission.
Founded in 2012, the Gap Year Association is the only national nonprofit working to coordinate the growing Gap Year Movement. Their mission is to maximize the potential of young adults, through accessible and meaningful gap year opportunities. They do so by focusing on four core areas: Research, Equity & Access, Resources, and Standards and Accreditation.
They lead in research by conducting national surveys on gap years and work hard to develop and promote scholarship for gap year participants. But one of the primary ways their work is expressed is by highlighting the outcomes gap year alumni and their parents experience; notably that this particular window for a young person - typically starting at the age of legal adulthood - is arguably the richest time for resilience-cultivation, self-awareness, global understanding, and career-exploration.
They apply objective and rigorous standards for both levels of accreditation they offer. The first level is membership of which Denver Gap Year is proud to have met the standards and qualifications they require. The second level is full accreditation which can take up to 3 years to complete.
