DGY Highlight: Love Made Claim

Denver Gap Year has several local and international partners, and in this blog we wanted to highlight an incredible ministry that participants will get to work alongside with.

Love Made Claim is a Denver based organization that is a resource for people who are involved in, or who have transitioned out of, the sex industry, providing hope, love and empowerment through advocacy and personal support.  They first began reaching out to women in the sex industry in the fall of 2011, and became an official non-profit organizations in 2013. LMC has 3 general methods of serving and supporting people currently or previously involved in the sex-for-sale industry.

Build trust and relationships

Every month they deliver gift bags, food and materials designed to open avenues of communication and exemplify how loved and valuable each and every person is.

S.A.F.E.

Support, Advocate, Friendship, Empowerment - they are advocates for people and strive to offer as much support as possible.  This can include staff and volunteers transporting individuals, assisting in practical needs, and utilizing other community resources available.

Stigma Abolition

As an organization, LMC is passionate about addressing stigmas that are often placed on people in the sex industry.  They hope to eliminate these stigmas through conversations, awareness and acknowledgement of perceptions that exist individually and in society.

Female participants of Denver Gap Year have an opportunity to serve alongside Love Made Claim as part of their weekly community service, and they will learn about combating injustice in urban Denver.  Participants that choose to serve with this organization will have opportunities to create gift baskets, engage in prayer and be a part of outreaches.
